Ernie and Brooke Sims Introduces the Newest Member of Their Family: Meet Ernie Sims IV

First comes love, then comes, marriage, then comes baby in the baby carriage. For Ernie Sims, linebacker for the Indianapolis Colts, and his wife Brooke this tune is probably floating in the air these days. The young couple has been blessed with their first son Ernie Sims IV and for the first time parents their home has expanded beyond words with love.

The past summer was not easy for the Sims. After the NFL lockout they got news that Ernie would be traded from Philadelphia to the Indianapolis Colts. At 8 months pregnant the couple uprooted their lives, found a home, furnished it, and got settled in just weeks before giving birth to their first son. After the shock of it all the Sims are happy and comfortable in Indianapolis.

The wives here in Indianapolis were so welcoming. They definitely made the transition easier. About 20 of us even gather for weekly Bible study.

Not only was she blessed with new friends but a surprisingly easy labor and delivery for the first time mom.

I heard horror stories about labor but I was blessed. Ernie was the best labor partner anyone could ask for. Anything I asked for he was there. I attempted to go natural, I made it to 7 cm then came the epidural.

A few months have passed since the birth, so we were curious to know how Ernie has adapted to life as a first time father.

Ernie adores his son and he hates to leave him to go to work. He gets sad and when he returns the first thing he does is grab the baby.

And the most surprising thing for Brooke as a new mother?

I’m most surprised that I hurt when he hurts. I can feel his pain. I’m used to Ernie as a football player getting hurt and I hurt for him but this is different.

Lastly, Brooke shared her hopes for “Baby Ernie.”

First and foremost I want him to know and love the Lord. I also pray he remains healthy. Also I was thinking the other day he could become a lawyer someday because of the way he fussed.
